Investors, beware: There's plenty of buzz around artificial intelligence. Like adding dot-com to their name in the 1990s, more and more companies are labeling themselves AI stocks. Firms like Nvidia (NVDA), Microsoft (MSFT), Alphabet (GOOGL), Apple (AAPL), Adobe (ADBE), and countless others across a range of industries certainly qualify. Even human resources leader Workday (WDAY) has deeply embedded AI and machine learning into its platform.
Simply jumping on that bandwagon, many companies use older data analytics tools and simply label them as AI for a public-relations boost. Identifying which companies are really AI stocks and actually getting material revenue growth from artificial intelligence can be tricky. For example, is Palantir stock a buy on its Artificial Intelligence prospects?

ChatGPT has continued to dazzle the internet with AI-generated content, morphing from a novel chatbot into a piece of technology that is driving the next era of innovation. No tech product in recent memory has sparked as much interest, controversy, fear, and excitement.
If you’re just now catching on, it’d be fair to wonder what the fuss is all about. You can try it out for yourself for free (or use the official free iOS app), but here’s the detailed guide you’ve been looking for — whether you’re worried about an AI apocalypse or are just looking for an intro guide to the app.
ChatGPT is a natural language AI chatbot. At its most basic level, that means you can ask it any question, and it will generate an answer.
Using the ChatGPT chatbot itself is fairly simple, as all you have to do is type in your text and receive information. The key here is to be creative and see how your ChatGPT responds to different prompts. If you don’t get the intended result, try tweaking your prompt or giving ChatGPT further instructions. ChatGPT knows the context of previous questions you ask, so you can refine from there rather than starting over fresh every time.

AI trend drives rise in students wanting to study computing

By Shiona McCallum & Chris Vallance
Technology reporters

This year's application data showed 18-year-olds were increasingly inspired to study computing "thanks to the rise of digital and AI", UCAS chief executive Clare Marchant said.
Applications to study computing were up almost 10% compared to 2022. However, it was only the seventh most popular area of higher education study.
While nearly 95,000 students applied for courses in computer and AI-related courses, almost twice that number applied to study business and management. More than 125,000 applied for design, creative, and performing arts courses.
Subjects allied to medicine, social sciences, biological and sports sciences, and engineering and technology were all more popular than computing.
However, the numbers applying for computer-related courses have risen every year since 2019, UCAS said.
This year software engineering saw the steepest rise in applications, up 16% compared to last year. Computer science attracted 11% more applicants. There was a 2% rise in students applying to study computer games and animation, and 4% in artificial intelligence (AI).
The increased interest in computing courses may in part be down to a growing public conversation around technology and artificial intelligence, Ms Marchant said.
